Breakthrough for TUT at USSA cricket tournament
The cricket team from the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) will compete again this year with the big guns of the Universities Sport SA (USSA) tournament invitation, after they won the B division of this tournament.
The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) has walked away as the champions at the Cricket South Africa USSA ‘B’ tournament that was hosted in George late last year.
In the final TUT (91/3) defeated the North West University’s Vaal Campus (88/9 in 20 overs) after the men from Pretoria surpassed the easy target in the 10th over.
Their all-rounder hero, Sibonelo Buthelezi, was the fitting awarded as the Player of the Tournament. He scored 232 runs in the tournament with an average of 46,4 and bagged 4 wickets at an economy rate of 6.81.
Buthelezi was also an outstanding fielder and was responsible for six dismissals (4 caught and two run outs).
The trophy for the most wickets in the tournament went to Sithembiso Mthembu (Mangosuthu University of Technology) who bagged 15 wickets at an average of 6.86 and an economy rate of 3.75 per over.
Nhlamulo Mboweni (University of Limpopo) was the top runs-scorer at the tournament. In seven innings he posted 508 runs with a highest score of 132. He scored five half-centuries.
With this victory TUT will be promoted to the A-tournament next year.
