Cream of South Africa’s netball stars back in action for 2025 Telkom Netball League

Can the local team from Pretoria, the Gauteng Jaguars, bounce back this year to reclaim their crown as champions in the prestigious Telkom Netball League?

Under the leadership of the new Netball Proteas coach, Jenny van Dyk, the Pretoria-bound Gauteng Jaguars have played in eight finals and won the Telkom Netball League five times between 2014 and 2021.

Their five titles were won in consecutive years between 2017 and 2021.

Rozanne Matthyse took over from Van Dyk and added another title (2023), while also leading the team to the finals of 2022 and 2024, where they lost by a few points each time.

Matthyse believes her team is ready to ascend the throne again and they are looking forward to the new season, which will officially kick off on April 26 at Sun City in the North West.

As a result of its ever-growing magnitude, the Telkom Netball League remains Africa’s premier franchise netball tournament and continues to be an exciting platform for the showcasing of the best Netball talent.

Supported by a strong partnership between Netball South Africa and proud sponsors Telkom, this year’s edition promises to be bigger and better, along with two exciting additional teams, the SPAR Baby Proteas (South Africa’s U-21) as well as invitational side, Zimbabwe.

Gauteng Jaguars coach Rozanne Matthyse hopes to win her second Telkom Netball League title this year since taking over from the highly successful current coach of the Netball Proteas, Jenny van Dyk.

As in previous editions, the Telkom Netball League will be held over three action packed Power Weeks. The first edition officially gets underway between 26 April – 04 May 2025 at the Sun City Superbowl, where fans can expect high-octane netball action.

A little more than a month later the Second Power Week will resume between 13-17 June 2025, with the last edition scheduled for 14-20 July to determine who will be crowned champions.

Speaking ahead of the much-anticipated season, Netball South Africa President, Cecilia Molokwane, expressed excitement about the growth of the league.

“This season, the Telkom Netball League provides an even bigger platform for both seasoned stars and emerging talent to showcase their skills. As Netball SA, we are proud to be associated with a league that remains committed to developing the next generation of netball champions, ensuring that every player can shine on the national stage,” Molokwane said at the launch of the 2025 tournament.

Netball South Africa will soon confirm fixtures, ticketing details as well as broadcast schedules in due course.
