Young star Pretorius and experienced Luus the big winners at Titans’ annual awards

The Titans' 19-year-old cricket phenomenon, Lhuan-dre Pretorius's first full season as a senior player was so impressive that he was named the Titans' Player of the Year last week.

The Titans, who recently ended their season with a draw in the CSA four-day series to share the trophy with the Lions, hosted their annual awards ceremony last week to reward the achievers in their ranks.

At the heart of the celebrations were Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Sune Luus, who both walked away with the Player of the Year awards following an outstanding season.

Sune Luus, star of the women’s Proteas team and one of the superstars in the Titans women’s team, walked away with three trophies at the franchise’s awards ceremony last week.

For Pretorius the 2024/25 campaign was nothing short of a breakout year and he claimed four awards on the evening. On his red-ball debut, he scored a brilliant 120 off 184 balls, immediately stamping his authority on the format. He went on to score three centuries in the 4-Day competition, proving that his bat speaks volumes across formats.

Sune Luus, who has spent much of the season juggling national commitments, made a stunning impact whenever she pulled on the Sky Blues jersey.

The Titans’ veteran spin bowler, Roelof van der Merwe (right), received the Men’s Most Valuable Player of the Year Award.

She also earned the Women’s 50-Over Player of the Year as well as the Player’s Player of the Year, a testament to her influence within the dressing room. Her unbeaten 153* at SuperSport Park was her highest score in limited-overs cricket and a highlight of the season.

Other standout performances were recognised as well. Medium pacer Dayyaan Galiem earned the Men’s T20 Player of the Year, while Eliz-Mari Marx took home the Women’s T20 Player of the Year after another consistent white-ball campaign.

Rasika Maharaj was acknowledged as one to watch for the future, while the ever-reliable Roelof van der Merwe, affectionately known as “The Bulldog”, was celebrated for his enduring contribution to the team.
