Green Mile Road Race brings carnival atmosphere to road racing in Centurion

The Green Mile Road Race, Centurion's family-friendly road race with its many facets and unique choices of different distances for athletes, will take place again this coming Saturday.

Pretoria and Centurion is once again gearing up for the running carnival of the year when the popular Green Mile Road Race will take place on Saturday 11 April 2026 at the Sportpark Sports Complex in Lyttelton, Centurion.

This annual event, hosted by the Green Mile Athletics Club, has evolved over the years into one of the most unique and family-friendly road races in Gauteng.

With an energetic carnival atmosphere, colourful decorations and great enthusiasm along the route, the day promises to be an unforgettable experience for participants and spectators alike.

Runners of all ages and fitness levels can challenge themselves by choosing between the 4-mile (6 km), 8-mile (12 km) or 16-mile (26 km) routes, while fast and competitive athletes can test their speed in the lightning-fast one-mile race (1.61 km), which will also serve as the Gauteng North one-mile championships. This unique distance allows both serious competitive athletes and recreational runners to be part of the same exciting event.

The race is especially popular with young athletes who take up running as a sport.

Green Mile Road Race is known for its festive carnival theme that creates a special atmosphere every year. Participants can look forward to theme-driven water points, enthusiastic supporters and helpers along the route. The colourful environment and energetic support make the Green Mile race one of the most exciting running experiences in Gauteng.

In addition to the unique atmosphere, participants’ achievements are also generously recognized. Trophies and prize money await the winners in the various categories, while medals or a refreshing drinks are presented to runners who successfully complete the race.

With different distances to choose from and a cheerful atmosphere throughout the day, the Green Mile Road Race is the perfect opportunity to actively participate in a tradition that grows annually.
