Tanesh fuses poetry with hiphop
Thandeka Nkabinde(stage name Tanesh) from Centurion, started rapping when she was 13-year-old when she decided to mix poetry with hiphop beats.
Hip-hop sensation Thandeka Nkabinde from Centurion decided to become a rapper when she decided to merge her love for poetry with hip hop beats at 13-years-old.
Nkabinde said she started rapping when she was doing grade seven but always knew she could sing as her mother had been encouraging her from a much younger age.
“My mother who is also the leader of a church choir, told me I could sing earlier on. So it came as no surprise to her when I decided to start singing and rapping.”
Nkabine originally comes from Mpumalanga and uses the stage name Tanesh
The 22-year-old is currently doing her diploma in Health Sciences at Netcare Education, and intends on pursuing more of her art in future.
“I never saw music as a hobby but as a career. My parents, however, encouraged me to study. So, I had to decide what is more important as it is not easy to make it in the arts industry,” she said.
Tanesh said she was inspired by the likes of Motswako rap artists, such as Kuli Chana and Tuks Senganga.
Internationally, she drew inspiration from the likes of Chris Brown, Usher, Eminem, TLC and others.
“I love to freestyle and was inspired by other people who believed in my capabilities. People who heard me rapping would say wow, you are that good,” Tanesh said.
She had released a few of her own tracks such as I am making It and plans on releasing her mixtape titled In my own World in July this year.
Tanesh’s advice to other artists was that they should always stick to their originality and refrain from imitating others.
“Do you. We get a lot of artists who follow others and shift from their own originality. Artists need to believe in themselves and their own craft,” she said.
