Win tickets to the South African Bike Festival

The South African Bike Festival, powered by the Discovery Channel, launched a roundup of all the “bike action” taking place over three days from 27 to 29 May at the newly renovated Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit.
Circuit Test Rides are selling fast to those who already have their festival tickets. With over 3500 test rides on more than 70 motorcycles throughout the weekend, organisers and manufacturers are thrilled to see the Ducati 1299 Panigale S, BMW S1000 RR, KTM 1290 SuperDuke R Ltd Edition, Kawasaki ZX14-R, Suzuki GSXR750 and Yamaha R1 already sold out of the advanced sales.
An allocation of rides are being sold in advance via the festival website using a unique password which is automatically generated as the fans purchase their tickets.
Twelve of South Africa’s top manufacturers are making the latest machines available to test ride on the new circuit, from cruisers to cutting-edge sports bikes and more, visitors can experience the weight, throttle and thrills of 2016’s stunning new machines, brought to you by Cartrack and The Michelin Superbike School.
The festival will have a variety of stunts and jumps to see, and International stunt and wheelie Champion, Julien “RazorBack” Welsch will be entertaining all visitors with his freestyle amazing tricks on a Triumph Street Triple R. All the way from France, Julien will be showing us how it’s done bringing international, unique talent as a first, ever seen in South Africa!
More fun and exciting activities to look out for include a fan activation zone presented by Monster Energy, the BMW Motorrad Enduro Track, the first ever Pride of Ownership Classic Motorcycle Viewing Deck.
All those who are passionate about motorbikes and pride themselves on breathing life back into the machines of the past and building unique machines are encouraged to fine-tune their latest projects in time for the first Custom Bike Show – “The South African Championship” to be judged by internationally known master-builder and show-judge, Mario Kyprianides.
Mario, born in Cyprus, is the owner and master-builder of Chopper Kulture, based in Germany and Abu Dhabi. The championship will be hosted by well-known TV presenters from The Bike Show, Mat Durrans and Harry Fisher, alongside official prize sponsor, Mars Helmets. The thirteen categories have been decided on and SA’s master builders are getting their machines ready for the competition of a lifetime with each category winner taking home a South Africa Bike Festival 2016 Trophy, and the overall winner will receive a Custom Bike Jet from Scythe works worth over R6500.
Harley-Davidson Gold Rand, Bloemfontein and Zambezi are representing, showcasing the “Kings of Custom” builds that were chosen earlier this year where all authorised Harley-Davidson dealers in the country have customised the newly launched 2016 Sportster 883 Iron. This is to show the public what can be done with a Harley-Davidson using your imagination.
Alfred Matamela from Soweto Motorbike School will also be offering training sessions on the newly rejuvenated handling track at Kyalami where visitors can have a go on the Yamaha 250cc training bikes on offer. These rides are also free for visitors.
On Sunday, 29 May 2016, the Sunday Charity Motorcycle Ride will see thousands of South Africans finally being able to ride their own motorcycles around the newly refurbished Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit as the ride finishes with two laps in formation around the circuit. This is the first time the public will ride the track since the completion of the massive transformation of the circuit and surrounding facilities. Think Bike and JMPD will marshal the Charity Ride with full road closures leaving WorldWear Shopping Centre, Fairlands JHB at 8am. The public will have key viewing points from one of the bridges over the highway: Malibongwe Dr, William Nicol or Bowling Ave.
The cost to participate is a R20 top up on your South Africa Bike Festival ticket, with all proceeds going towards CLAW (Community Lead Animal Welfare) through the Ride for a Reason-Claw and Paws Charity organisation. Those who are visiting the festival on the Friday and/or Saturday can still participate in the ride on the Sunday morning.
