Shop owner killed in Hammanskraal
Police are investigating a business robbery after a Pakistani shop owner was killed in Hammanskraal on Thursday night.
A Pakistani shop owner was killed in Hammanskraal on Thursday night during a business robbery.
Police spokesperson Constable Herman Moremi said 56-year-old Torio Mohandod, was murdered in his shop, Progress General Dealer, in Eersterus near Temba.
Three armed men apparently stormed his shop around 21:00 and attacked Torio, who was in the shop with his colleague Waheed Aslam.
“The armed robbers allegedly put plastic bags over the two Pakistani men’s heads to suffocate them,” said Moremi.
“Torio died on the scene while Waheed was taken to hospital for treatment.”
Customers alerted the police when they found the two men on the floor.
Moremi said the attackers fled with R800 in cash, four cellphones, cigarettes and airtime vouchers.
He said police were investigating charges of business robbery, murder and attempted murder.
“No shots were fired. The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made yet.”
