Hunt for rally champion killers continues

Hettema was shot and killed by two burglars in Boschkop.

Police are yet to make a breakthrough in the murder of former rally champion Jan Hettema (83).

No arrests have been made, police said.

Hettema was killed on his smallholding in the east of Pretoria in June.

Police spokesperson Captain Marissa van der Merwe said the police investigation was continuing.

Two burglars shot dead Hettema in Boschkop around 08:00, on 29 June.

The locked up his wife, a housekeeper and her baby in a closet.

Hettema was the father of singer Helena Hettema and was especially known for his skills as a rally driver.

During his funeral service at the Brooklyn Methodist Church, Helena shared her last memories of her father.

She said he was not only a champion among rally enthusiasts, but also the family’s champion dad.

“You were the best dad in the world. I will carry you with me wherever I go.”
