Rum is emerging into the public consciousness as a premium spirit. This makes attending the Kleinkaap Craft Rum Festival an easy decision for those in search of fine drink and good times.

Rum education is important, and that’s definitely part of what we’re trying to do at the Kleinkaap Boutique Hotel.

The drink is starting to become more popular in South Africa but still some people do not know how to really enjoy it. That is why we are hosting this festival to help them learn more about South Africa’s fine rum and experience wonderful crafted rum first hand.

As carefree as rum is, there is a serious side too. It is an industry and a craft vying for your attention.

The drink has suffered its fair share of snobbery over the years due to its naval and piratical associations, and the fact that it’s made from leftover agricultural products.

But in the past three to four years we’ve seen a huge upswing in rum’s popularity, and that’s because consumers and people’s perceptions are finally getting a better understanding of the product

In order to truly enjoy a fine rum, you needn’t know anything about its provenance, its age, or anything else for that matter. If it tastes good to you, then you could just stop right there.

But if you’re like us, a little background on your drink is not only fun to discover, it enhances your appreciation of what’s in the glass. We represent a much more sophisticated market, one where rum is enjoyed neat in the same way you would drink a premium-quality whisky.

We will have a range of Caribbean inspired dishes, especially jerk chicken and barbecued ribs. Fresh organic herbs and spices from our Garden Kanaän will leave you with a magic meal.

Rum is often used as a flavouring in desserts, for instance in rum cake, so it is a natural pairing when it comes to desserts.

Throughout the event there will be live entertainment including a marimba band. There will also be opportunity to talk to rum industry experts, tasty food to buy and, above all, lots of fun.
