UPDATE: Alleged cable thieves nabbed in the north

Upon searching the vehicle they found 10 straps of copper hidden underneath recycled cans.

The Rietgat SAPS closed the net on six suspects allegedly found in the possession of an estimated 80kg of copper and still allegedly tried to bribe officers of the law with R10 000 on Thursday.

“The arrest comes after the dedicated members spotted and stopped a white Mitsubishi double cab bakkie along the Soutpan Road. Upon searching the vehicle they found 10 straps of copper hidden underneath recycled cans.

Among the six arrested suspects, was the wife of the “kingpin” for attempting to bribe the police officers. All the suspects were also to be investigated in connection with the immigration act, said spokesperson Captain Steven Maluleka.

The suspects will appear in the Soshanguve magistrate’s court on charges of theft and bribery soon.
