Young local men clean community rubbish bins for free
The clean-up squad said they were providing a service for their community to show their appreciation to all community members.

A group of young men Mabopane in Pretoria saw the need to help their community by taking out every dustbin from each household to clean and disinfect them.
One of the young men, Thabang Papola, who started the clean-up squad said they were providing a service for their community to show their appreciation to all community members.
He described the clean-up campaign as a success saying a large amount of garbage bins were cleaned and disinfected.
“Volunteering isn’t just about giving up your time, it’s about adding real value to the cause you are helping, and showing appreciation to the community,” said Papola.
He believed that it was each person’s social responsibility to give to those who are less fortunate and embracing roles that everyone can play.
“I believe we need to get up and play a part in changing circumstances, and I believe in leading by example. I hope other community members learn from us,” he said.

“It was amazing to be part of the collaboration of like-minded people. Cleaning the bins will lessen the bad smell of dustbins from our community.”
He said the group started this movement to encourage residents to always stay safe and be hygienic.
“We are at a stage where we should always be clean and avoid being in contact with things that may put our health at risk like bad smells,” he said.
“With great power comes great responsibility. We believe if we work together with our community members we will make a great hygienic team.
“When you help those around you, you gain a unique sense of purpose by serving those around you, one which often manifests in other areas of your life,”said Papola.
“Giving back to the place you call home helps to unite the community and bridge some of the social, economic and political gaps communities face every day.”
