Gauteng Covid-19 cases climb to 42 881

Number of confirmed cases increases by 3 040 since Monday.

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Gauteng stood at 42 881 with 10 534 recoveries and 216 deaths on Tuesday, according to a statement published by the Department of Health on Wednesday.

The department said out of 29 670 contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19), 18 868 people have completed the 14 days monitoring period with no symptoms reported and were de-isolated.

The department said 2 981 people were currently hospitalised in public and private facilities.

Breakdown per district of cases and recoveries:

– Johannesburg: 20 918 cases and 7 061  recoveries
– Ekurhuleni: 9 192  cases and 2 526  recoveries
– Tshwane: 6 659 cases and 1 648 recoveries
– Sedibeng: 1 649 cases and 135 recoveries
– West Rand: 2 744  cases and 681  recoveries

And 95 unallocated cases.
