Mams police host festive season campaign
The purpose of the campaign is to inform customers and shop tenants of different kinds of crime.
In anticipation of the coming festive season, local police distributed thousands of flyers about crime prevention and shopper safety at Denlyn Mall in Mamelodi west last Friday.
The flyers were distributed by the police’s social crime prevention and the Moses Mabhida foundation for social workers as part of their festive season safety campaign at the malls.
“The purpose of the campaign is to inform customers and shop tenants of various types of crimes,” said police spokesperson Captain Johannes Maheso.
“Flyers contain information on what to do when carrying large amounts of cash, human trafficking and other safety tips,” said Maheso.
He added that the campaigns wanted to be proactive when it comes to crime prevention, because bank following, shoplifting, theft out of motor vehicles are but few of the crimes at malls.
Maheso also said the campaigns also wants to deter business robberies.

Mamelodi railway police also took part in the campaign.
The campaign was more than simply distributing flyers, he said. Police presence was also part of it.
The flyers further advised shoppers to wear masks properly.
Maheso further encouraged the public to report any suspicious-looking persons to them by dialling the 08600- 101111 toll- free number.
