Pretoria High Court to hear Mamelodi double murder trial of Tebogo Mnisi

Political parties and Mamelodi residents have provided and continue to provide support for the family throughout the traumatic ordeal.

Family members of two slain cousins have welcomed the transfer of a double murder case from the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court to the High Court.

Tebogo Mnisi (38) appeared in court on October 5, 2026, in connection with the fatal shooting of Baleseng Moramaga (22) and Tshiamo Moramaga (21). Mnisi also faces an attempted murder charge after a third person survived a gunshot wound.

Senior prosecutor Advocate Anne-Marie Bendeman confirmed Mnisi will stand trial in the Pretoria High Court from February 22 to March 5, 2027.

Bendeman said the accused faces five charges: two counts of premeditated murder, one count of attempted murder, possession of live ammunition, and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Financial and emotional strain on family

Family members spoke about the emotional toll of the trial and their relief following the decision.

Nthabiseng Buthelezi, one of the cousins’ aunts, said the family is relieved the trial is set to start.

Buthelezi expressed gratitude that the investigations are complete and the trial dates are confirmed.

“The accused was arrested last year in October, and family members spent a lot of money travelling from as far as Limpopo to Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court only to be told the case was postponed for further investigation,” Buthelezi said.

“We want justice for our loved ones,” she added.

He later abandoned his bail application and remains behind bars.

The cousins were killed in the early hours of Sunday, October 26, 2025, while a third victim survived.

Residents of Mamelodi, alongside various political parties, have supported the family since the beginning of the case and pledged to continue until justice is served.
