Masana Lodge brags with Best Traditional Food restaurant award

Café head chef Innocent Nhengu told Polokwane Observer the best meats are freshly sourced from local suppliers and they don't comprise on food quality and hygiene.

POLOKWANE – Masana Café and Lodge in Polokwane celebrated a recent award as Best Traditional Food restaurant during the Polokwane City of Stars Awards hosted at the lodge on Thursday.

To celebrate and appreciate the award, the lodge hosted tourism stakeholders and media personalities for a traditional African lunch.

The owners of the lodge, Takalani and Stanley Mufamadi accepted the award together as they showed off the certificate and trophy.

“Our story began when the devastating effects of the pandemic, which led to Masana Lodge looking for new business opportunities to enhance the already lost overnight accommodation and conference revenue. This is when we decided to open Masana Café, offering homecooked traditional meals as well other favourite meals like braai meat and pizza,” Mufamadi said.

He added that their meals are cooked using just water and salt, to give their customers a pure natural taste without any additives and spices.

“Our motto is ‘you are what you eat’ and ‘we do gastronomy tourism’.”

During the event, guests were treated to some tasty traditional dishes ranging from hardbody chicken, tripe, pork trotters, cow heals as well as mopani worms.
