Turfloop Gr 3 learner has a knack for art

Khumedi Mothiba's art has earned him a reputation at school as the go-to learner for anything that requires creativity.

POLOKWANE – Khumedi Maishibe Mothiba is a nine-year-old with an artistic talent.

The Gr 3 learner at Toronto Primary School in Turfloop started drawing at the age of four.

July Mothiba explained that they first noticed that he was talented as any time he found a pen and paper, he would start to draw.

“It was clear from then that he was talented. His drawings were not scribbles, they were very good for his age,” said Mothiba.

Khumedi is described as a quiet learner who uses his creativity and art to express himself.

His art has earned him a reputation at school as the go-to learner for anything that requires creativity.

Mothiba added that although they encourage his love for art, sometimes, they have to remind him to focus on things other than drawing, especially his school work.

“My son really loves art and I wish he could get the necessary recognition. I am also looking for opportunities to expose his talent and hopefully build something that can sustain him in future,” said Mothiba.

Khumedi explained that when he draws, he puts his entire focus into it. He enjoys drawing cartoon characters from shows he watches on TV and that keeps him busy and off the streets.

He wants to one day own a museum where he will exhibit his work.
