Cosatu advises people to ignore notice about a strike tomorrow

Notice is fake news.

HIGHVELD – Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) has distanced itself from a letter circulating on social media advising people not go to work and school tomorrow because of an alleged illegal strike on Tuesday 24 April.

Mr Sonwabisile (Sosso) Jabane, Cosatu secretary, said: “This is fake news. We are not planning any illegal strike and we did not write a letter to the community.

“We advise locals to ignore the letter.”

The letter has the municipal logo, as well as Sasol and Eskom’s.

Comment from Govan Mbeki Municipality: Mr Bheki Kubheka, senior manager in the office of the municipal manager, warned the community about the fake news circulating on social media.

“We didn’t issue any public notice regarding a strike and we urge locals not to take part in any illegal strike.
“We are concerned about the use of the municipal logo on this letter and we condemn it.”
