Ramaphosa unveils hotel as part of Ekurhuleni’s aerotropolis development
Today's proceedings included a plaque unveiling by Ramaphosa.
President Cyril Ramaphosa unveiled the R950-million Radisson Hotel & Convention Centre in the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) earlier today, Kempton Express reports.
Zamani Letjane, MD of Akani Properties, said the hotel’s name was in honour of Oliver Reginald Tambo and due to the proximity to the OR Tambo International Airport.
Today’s proceedings included a plaque unveiling by Ramaphosa.
“We are delighted to be working closely with the city and to be part of the exciting development of the Kempton area aligned with its aerotropolis vision,” said Rob van der Velden, the GM of the hotel.
The hotel is one of the key projects and catalysts towards the realisation of CoE’s 30-year aerotropolis masterplan aimed at transforming the city into a global logistical hub, using the OR Tambo International Airport as the springboard.
Of the total capital investment, R545-million was spent on the development of the hotel.
“The hotel is located in Bredell, an area that is primed for urban renewal and just a 10-minute drive from the airport. We are excited that a global brand such as this has chosen to be located in Ekurhuleni,” said CoE mayor Mzwandile Masina.
