Concern over illegal dumping sites
Residential areas are looking like local dumping sites

SECUNDA – Residents have had enough of the illegal rubble dumping.
The residents of Sunset Park and surrounding areas are up in arms over rubble being dumped near Golden Village and the road from Evander to Secunda near the flashing robots.
Mr Jan Mocke has raised concerns after witnessing a truck dumping rubble at the back of Golden Village.
“People are just dumping their stuff here and nothing is being done about it.
“We have a beautiful town with lots of businesses and potential, why does it have to look like this when we as home owners take pride in our properties only for the rest of the area to look like our local dumping site?” he asked.
Residents are also worried that these dumping sites are attracting the wrong people to this area.
“These are selfless people who are stingy to part with a few rand to make sure the rubble is disposed of in the correct manner,” said Mr Mocke
“I have brought this matter to the municipality’s attention and was told that the matter would be looked into.
“To date nothing has been done and the dumping is getting worse and out of control.”
Motorists are welcomed into Secunda with heaps of building rubble being dumped near the side of the road.
Concerns are that it is going to look like the local dumping site if the issue is not dealt with soon.
The rubble at both Golden Village and the road between Evander and Secunda has grass growing over it.
Mr Henry Masango, head of Communications and Marketing of the Govan Mbeki Municipality, could not comment at the time of going to the press.
