IEC releases Govan Mbeki results
Mpumalanga IEC gives thumps up for weekend registration turn out.
HIGHVELD – More than 10 000 visited voting stations in the Govan Mbeki municipal area as part of the nationwide registration campaign on 9 and 10 November.
Of these, 4 000 were registering for the first time and 5 200 re-registered at their existing voting stations, while 5 200 used the opportunity to change their existing registration to a different voting station.
Mr Sibusiso Nkosi, spokesman for the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in Mpumalanga, said registration was smooth and efficient throughout the weekend.
He thanked political parties, community leaders and the public for cooperating with the IEC officials.
The date for the elections has not been proclaimed yet.
Eligible voters are advised to continue to register or check their registration details at the municipal electoral office in Secunda during office hours.
They can also SMS their identity document number to 32810, contact the call centre toll-free at 0800 11 8000 or visit the IEC website, www.elections.org.za, to check their registration details.
