What happened to the traffic lights?

Broken traffic lights can lead to accidents.

SECUNDA – Many traffic lights in town are not working and some people think it causes more accidents.

The Echo and Ridge Times asked the marketing and communications manager of the Govan Mbeki Municipality, Mr Henry Masango, for comment last week when an accident occurred on the corner of Walter Sisulu and Oliver Tambo Street.

He said: “We are in that season of the year when most of our road users suddenly change their driving behaviour, thus leading to unnecessary accidents.

“This irresponsible attitude by certain drivers lead to the loss of lives and serious damage to our roads’ infrastructure.

“The municipality is having an ongoing programme to maintain roads, traffic signs, road markings and traffic lights.

“The necessary spares have been procured to fix the specific traffic light at the corner od Walter Sisulu and Oliver Tambo Street.”
