Refuse removal truck transports stove
‘Corruption will stive when people do not report matters.’
SECUNDA – The Ridge Times placed a photo of a refuse removal truck uploading a stove last week.
According to the resident who sent the photo, the truck was uploading this stove on days it was not supposed to be in that area to collect refuse.
The marketing and communicaions manager of the Govan Mbeki Municipality, Mr Henry Masango, responded to the Ridge Times’ questions about this matter.
He said: “Corruption will thrive as long as good people are doing nothing about it and not reporting matters to the municipality.
“Photos and an affidavit need to be submitted to the municipality for a proper investigation and subsequent disciplinary hearing.
“Photos alone will not stand as evidence in a disciplinary hearing, given the fact that they can be easily photoshopped, unless the informant is prepared to assist the process by availing herself to testify as a witness.
“The municipal environment is a highly unionised turf, thus it will be difficult for management to prosecute employees through the open court of public opinions without hard facts on the table.”
