People learn about IDP
The purpose was to teach residents about the Integrated Development Plan, the municipal budget and the Public Management Systems.
LEANDRA – Siqalile Development Forum (SDF) together with the Leandra Community Centre(LCC) conducted a two day workshop from 20 to 21 November.
The purpose was to teach residents about the Integrated Development Plan, the municipal budget and the Public Management Systems.
SDF was founded in 2011 after a set workshop conducted by Plan Act.
The forum is the brainchild of LCC and Plan Act.
After the service delivery protests in 2011, the two organisations met to establish a structure to combat pro-active and constructive issues that arise.
The forum has launched six subcommittees: environment, local economic development, participatory budget, skills development, social audit and monitoring and infrastructure.
This forum is funded by the German International Cooperation.
Mr Mike Makwela facilitated the programme.
Ms Precious Masuku (22), a resident who attended the workshop, said: “Today I have learned things I did not know about before, such as the IDPlan and the municipal budget.
“We need more of these workshops, because we do not always know the proper procedure that the municipality must follow before they can begin with development in our area.
“I also realised the seriousness of paying for services and our rent.”
