Alfred bids farewell

EVANDER – Mr Alfred Tsipa, a science specialist at Osizweni Education and Development Centre, said goodbye to the staff of the centre on 29 November.

A function was held for him at the Evander Club Lapa on 26 November.

Mr Tsipa worked at the centre since April 2009.

He had been working as a programme manager at Unizul Science Centre in Richards Bay and was appointed president of Southern African Southern African Association of Science and Technology Centres from 2006 to 2009.

Mr Tsipa introduced revolutionary mathematics, science and technology education programmes at Osizweni.

He selected effective science centre interactive exhibits in collaboration with the Sasol Corporate Social Investment and designed a visitor friendly exhibit layout.

Mr Tsipa supervised all the science education programmes of the centre after Dr Rufus Wesi left the centre in December 2011,

He organised the Mpumalanga Afrobot workshops and a competition in March last year and took eMbalenhle secondary pupils to the Pretoria Science Camp in April last year.

He also entertained Minquiz competitors, presented science shows during National Science Week and Sasol Techno X, hosted secondary science educator workshops last year and this year.

Mr Tsipa won the bid to bring the sixth Science Centre World Congress to Cape Town from 4 to 8 September 2011 where 416 delegates from 56 countries assessed the impact of science centres worldwide.

As an acting Education Department Manager, Mr Tsipa has been enthusiastically training bursary students and the Department of Science and Technology’ South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement interns to be teachers.

Mr Tsipa will work as a senior manager at Unizul Science Centre this month.
