Prepare for new meters

Some resident are also concerned about possible electricity spikes.

BETHAL – Some residents have recently received emails from the Govan Mbeki Municipality to inform them about the replacement of electrical meters.

The letter is signed by Mr King Sihlali, Regional Manager for Bethal, and informs residents that new meters will be installed free of charge.

Some residents are also concerned about possible electricity spikes.

A letter was published last week of a resident who had to pay extra for electrical units used.

Another resident informed the Echo/Ridge Times that he had to pay 1.84 per unit.

Mr Henry Masango, head of marketing and communications for the Govan Mbeki Municipality, was asked what purpose these meters serve.

He said: “They prevent tempering and are compatible to the Automatic Meter Reading System (AMRS), which the municipality is rolling out.

According to him, installations have begun but only outside on the poles.
