eMZINONI – True to their word, the municipality recently began a clean-up campaign at the dumping site on the Standerton road next to the eMzinoni Cemetery.
The Ridge Times addressed the issue about residents who complained that the dumping site was closed and that people dumped rubbish next to the road.
Mr Henry Masango, head of marketing and communications for the Govan Mbeki Municipality, however, said: “The Bethal waste disposal site is open and accessible to any vehicles, despite the waste that is being dumped along the access road.
“During the first week of December, all our disposal sites, including the Bethal site, were completely flooded and not accessible.
“As a result the community had no option but to dump along the access road leading to the site until it dried off.
“All the waste along the road will be removed and the road towards and inside the site will be repaired.”
Maintenance workers were seen carrying out the orders from Council last week.
