TRICHARDT – The bad road condition is like a shackle around the legs according to Mr Henry Masango, head of Marketing and Communications for the Govan Mbeki Municipality.
The Ridge Times asked Mr Masango again what is being done about the poor conditions of the roads in Trichardt and when residents can see results.
The Ridge Times published the article “Trichardt residents have had enough” on 20 December.
The potholes are getting bigger and are causing problems and in many areas vehicles have to stop in order to avoid the holes or to drive through them slowly.
The last time the Ridge Times reported about the poor road conditions, the holes were filled with red sand as a temporary solution.
According to Mr Masango, at that time there was no supply of asphalt to do pothole repairs due to the contractors’ holidays and dolerite was being used to make the roads trafficable.
The holiday season has come and gone and with nature taking its course, the sand has washed away.
Ms Masango said: “The municipality has begun receiving the ordered hot sulphate in the first week of February and patchwork has begun, especially on the main routes.”
“Most of these roads have surpassed their life span and will have to be redone, but due to insufficient funding this will not be possible in the near future.
“Our apologies to the community for not being able to promptly attend to this challenge promptly.”
