Netball courts need maintenance
People have vandalised it and took some of the fencing.
Young people who play netball are the latest to express their dissatisfaction with the level of service provided by the Lekwa Municipality.
According to Ms Lulama Buthelezi, a netball player, the courts in Sakhile are not maintained and the grass is long.
“The grass has formed bushes because it has not been cut for some time.
“We find broken glasses on the ground when we want to use it as well,”she said.
According to her, there is a caretaker for the premises, but every time they want to train, boys play soccer on the courts and no one tells them it is not allowed.
“It is the caretaker’s responsibility to ensure that the courts are used for netball only.”
The netball players cannot organise tournaments and invite teams from outside due to no changing rooms, no water tap nor lights when playing late.
The sporting complex’s renovations excluded the tennis and volleyball courts.
The two courts are hardly visible because of the grass and no one is using them now.

Mr Sipho Mkwanazi, spokesman of the Lekwa Municipality, said they refurbished the netball courts and the Sakhile Stadium.
The contractor needs to hand the project back to the municipality and a maintenance plan has to be in place.
The project will probably be handed back by April.
In an article in the Standerton Advertiser of 21 February, the state of soccer fields not being maintained was highlighted.
Mr Mkwanazi was quoted saying that the reason the Sakhile Stadium is not open was because they are still trying to finalise a maintenance plan.
“We know most of the soccer fields don’t have grass and have accepted it, but all we ask is that they at least scrape off the grass so we can play,” Mr Sizwe Nzimande, a resident said.
