APC demands improvement in service delivery
APC members hand over memorandum to municipality.
SECUNDA – About 50 protesters from the African People’s Convention (APC) descended on the CBD and demanded the removal of incompetent ward councillors’ and the improvement of service delivery on Friday, 28 February.
They handed over a memorandum of grievances to Mr Lucky Mtsweni, councillor of Ward 29, who received it on behalf of the executive mayor, Ms Lindi Masina.
The APC said they want the Eskom to regulate the electricity supply and demanded a solution to the sewage leaks all over the townships.
They also demanded that a primary school is built in Extension 18, the building of a clinic in Afghanistan and an end to nepotism and corruption.
“The unlawful and illegal selling of title deeds by Mr Dingaan Shabalala from the housing department must stop.
“We demand the removal and arrest of all illegal foreigners selling drugs to children.
“These dealers are known to police officials and there is a drug spot next to Evander Library,” said the protesters.
They said there are too many taverns and shebeens in eMbalenhle and that the municipality must monitor them and check whether they are legal.
They also voiced their concerns over a lack of youth development programmes and recreational facilities.
The APC demanded supervision of municipal employees working in the township.
They want a response within 10 days.
Mr Mtsweni said he appreciated it that the protesters behaved well and that they did not become violent and said the municipality will respond in time.
The police maintained a strong, visible presence during the march.
