Plant upgrade continues in July
Govan Mbeki Municipality spends R60 million at the eMbalenhle Waste Water Treatment Plant.
eMBALENHLE – The upgrading of the Waste Water Treatment Plant will continue in July.
Mr Henry Masango, head of Communications and Marketing of the Govan Mbeki Municipality, said two contractors were appointed and had begun with the stripping of mechanical equipment, but were stopped in January because of a limited budget in the 2013/2014 financial year.
He said the project will be finished in the 2015/2016 financial year.
The municipality said during the ribbon cutting and sod turning event at the plant in October, that it will spend R60 million on the project through the Municipal Infrastructure Grant.
The scope of work includes electrical, mechanical and civil upgrading.
The plant is in a bad condition and the equipment have been stripped and others have rusted.
Residents have been complaining about blocked toilets, manholes, drains and leaking sewage in their yards and streets in the past years.
