School choir wins three categories

Mpumelelo Primary School has qualified for second phase in the Schools Music Competition after taking first position in three categories.

LEANDRA – Mpumelelo Primary School Choir won three categories at the South African Schools Choir Eisteddfod, namely Best African Song, Best Afrikaans Song and Best English Song recently.

This victory has qualified the choir for the second phase of the competition in Ermelo on 3 May.

Ms Sibongile Mkhwanazi, choir conductor, said she could not believe the great performance of her pupils because during the preparations and rehearsal there were many disturbances.

“Parents were unhappy about the time we spent rehearsing and resulted in constant restructuring and starting over again because of pupils who were absent.

“Regardless of those challenges, we made it and I am very grateful.”

Ms Mkhwanazi thanked the parents, pupils, teachers and the school management team for their support.
