Curro Secunda learner takes top Eisteddfod title

Joshua van der Spuy made is the Victor Artium in the Grade Six to Seven Boys’ category at the Highveld Ridge Eisteddfod.

Joshua van der Spuy, a Grade Six learner at Curro Secunda, made history by becoming the school’s first-ever Victor Artium winner in the Grade Six to Seven Boys’ category at the Highveld Ridge Eisteddfod.

Joshua received the prestigious accolade at the Eisteddfod Prestige Evening held at Lake Umuzi on October 14, following a competition that attracted a total of 3 100 entries this year.

The Victor Artium award is determined by calculating the average of a participant’s three highest-scoring items. Joshua achieved the highest average in his category, earning him first place and marking a milestone for Curro Secunda.

Curro Secunda executive head Ruan van der Merwe said Joshua’s achievement reflected his exceptional talent, dedication and hard work.

“Joshua, you have not only earned a prestigious title, but you have also written your name into Curro Secunda’s history books.

“Congratulations on this outstanding achievement. Your Curro Secunda family is incredibly proud of you,” said van der Merwe.
