Govan Mbeki Municipality holds by-law consultation meetings
Council derives the power to pass a by-law from the Constitution.
HIGHVELD – The Govan Mbeki Municipality began holding its by-law consultation meetings on Monday, 9 June that will end on 18 June.
Municipal legal officials and those from the Speaker’s office, as well as councillors are conducting these meetings.
A by-law is a law that is passed by Council to regulate the affairs and the services it provides within its jurisdiction.
A municipality derives the powers to pass a by-law through the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa that gives certain specified powers and competencies to local government as set out in Part B of Schedules 4 and Part B of 5 of the Constitution.
The meetings are held as follow:
* Charl Cilliers Police Station, Kinross Extension 25 and Kiriyatswana Secondary School at 4.30pm on 11 June.
* 2010 Tuckshop eMbalenhle Extension 22 at 4.30, Leandra Thusong Centre at 6pm and Difa Nkosi Community Hall in Lebohang at 5pm on 12 June.
* Sjongile Ndamase Community Hall, eMbalenhle South Community Hall and Healing Centred Ministries in eMbalenhle at 5pm on 13 June.
* Kinross Sasol Club at 6pm, Gert Sibande FET College at 5.30pm and Lillian Ngoyi Centre at 6pm on 17 June.
* Bethal Town Hall at 6pm, KI Thwala Secondary School at 5pm and Kinross Golf Club at 6pm on 18 June.
