Wires tied to a resident’s wall and a tree outside his residence pose a threat to pedestrians on the corner of Coligny and Joubert Streets.
Trees have been joined by wire on the outside of the garden on municipal property.
At first sight one does not see the wires at all and this could become a problem if walking there at night.
Residents said the street lights have not been working for some time now.
According to the woman at the house in question, the wires have been put there for several reasons:
* A theft occurred there recently and her lawn mower was stolen.
* The wires prevent people from peeping over her wall.
* People walking past her house leave their litter on the pavement for her to pick up.
* Apparently residents have been climbing up the trees to help themselves to fire wood by sawing off branches.
An e-mail was sent to Mr Sipho Mkwanazi, spokesman of the Lekwa Municipality, on 27 June with regard to the relevant by-laws, as well as the street lights not working, but no comment was received at the time of going to press.
