Heinrich plays golf for rhinos
Support golf player’s cause to protect the rhino.
SECUNDA – Heinrich du Preez travelled through South Africa last week and played a game of golf in each of the country’s nine provinces to create awareness for rhino protection.
He played at Graceland Golf Club on Tuesday, 22 July.
He and his crew ride with a tractor and a trailer with a big rhino and her baby on so that nobody can miss the reason for their trip.
Du Preez holds 32 world records in golf and his mission is to help those in need through golf.
“The reason we ride with a tractor is because the traffic department would not allow us to go with a golf cart and the tractor is just as fast as a golf cart,” said Du Preez.
The tractor travels at about 26km per hour and they already departed at 3am on Tuesday to reach Graceland Golf Club at around 4pm.
His crew consists of Jacques van Wyk and Jacques du Plessis.
Their journey began on Saturday, 19 July in Beaufort West and ended last Saturday in Limpopo.
He has been involved with a rhino orphanage in Naboomspruit for years.
“Altogether 1 014 rhinos were killed last year and if we carry on like this, our children will never see a rhino,” said Du Preez.
His journey through South Africa playing golf has not been smooth sailing the whole time.
The whole crew got sick when they ate steak and kidney pies that were off.
