The provincial branch of the South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) issued a statement that they are distancing themselves from the march on 8 August.
They claimed that they were not consulted and had no knowledge about the proposed march.
The Standerton Advertiser published an article on 25 July with SANCO’s concerns and allegations.
The SANCO provincial branch released another statement saying they now fully support the march, after seeing the concerns raised by the community.
SANCO urged the community to join the march and fight against corruption.
According to Mr Nicholas Selepe, Lekwa zonal convener, the march has been approved by the Lekwa Municipality on 1 August.
According to a source, who wishes to remain anonymous, the Joint Operations Committee held two meetings to discuss this issue after an unsatisfactory first meeting and the police will be on full alert during the proceedings.
Mr Linda Tshabalala, municipal manager, said the march was not approved because of the committee’s report stating unruliness and complete disrespect for the chairman of the committee, the history of violence during marches and the municipal leadership was not given an opportunity to address SANCO concerns.
He also said there is provision for a recourse to court.
“We will meet at Sakhile Stadium at 8am and begin marching to the municipal offices in town at 10am,” Mr Selepe said.
