Leandra Fire Station to be operational soon
“It is envisaged that a handover ceremony will be held in September which should also culminate as an opening ceremony for the station,” municipality says.
LEANDRA – The local fire station is expected to be operational in September.
This is according to Mr Henry Masango, head of marketing and communication of the Govan Mbeki Municipality, about several complaints from residents about the risk of no fire station in the area.
“The construction part of the project is completed and the vehicle fleet (a fire engine truck and the land cruiser) is being branded at the assembling factory.
“It is envisaged that a handover ceremony will be held in September which should also culminate as an opening ceremony for the station.”
Residents said this situation is frustrating because when there is a fire, they do not know where to go to and end up extinguishing the fire themselves, which put their lives in danger.
Others have mixed feelings about the fire station and said they will wait until it opens.
