Motorists can claim from municipality
More than 26 vehicles have been damaged on the R50-Road.
The DA hosted an information table on the R50 road outside Standerton on 3 October and also requested motorists to sign a petition.
More than 250 motorists signed and the DA wants to ensure the road is upgraded and maintained.
According to statistics 26 vehicles were damaged due to potholes and four injuries were reported between 1 January last year and 31 September.
Mr James Masango, provincial chairman of the DA, urged drivers on the R50 Road to sign the petition.
“Before the elections the road was closed for upgrades and there was a huge party afterwards to officially open the road, but the road is still in a bad condition.
“We will take the petition to the Minister of Transport,” Mr Masango said.
DA members also handed out information pamphlets to the motorists.
The pamphlet contained detailed information on how and where to claim if a vehicle gets damaged because of the potholes.
“There have been two fatalities on this road, due to the state of the road,” Mr Masango also said.
According to Mr Johannes van der Wath, Lekwa DA chairman, the motorists were happy that something was being done
“The drivers gladly signed the petition because most of them have had some difficulties on the road,” Mr Van der Wath said.
“Some motorist even said driving on this road is not only dangerous, but time-consuming as well.”
