Standerton Hospital board reaches out
The Standerton Hospital Board is determined to help the community by providing health care services to those who can not get to the hospital or clinics.
The Standerton Hospital Board has recently begun an outreach programme that will promote interaction between the community and the hospital.
The Sakhile community informed the chairman of the board, Mr Mandla Mphuthi, about an elderly woman who can not walk, but crawls on her knees.
Mr Mphuthi intervened and went to visit the woman and discovered that she could not go to the clinics for health care because of her condition.
“I invited a medical social worker and occupational therapist to help in initiating the project,” Mr Mphuthi said. The team visited her to assess the situation and a plan of action was formed and they gave her a wheelchair.
She will be examined, receive relevant treatment and the occupational therapist will teach her how to use the wheelchair independently. The team plans to identify and help more community members in need of health care.
