Residents give up hope of getting RDP houses

Residents were given registration form to apply for RDP houses in Lebohang recently.

LEBOHANG – Residents waited for more than six hours to register for RDP houses at the Lebohang Community Hall on Wednesday, 26 November.

They apparently began to throw stones at and to vandalise the hall, but reprimanded one another.

According to a reliable source, municipal officials invited those who need RDP house, to register at the community hall the next day.

“Some of us arrived at the hall in the early hours of the morning to be first on the list.

“We waited for hours and hours, but municipal officials did not show up.

“We tried to call the office of the Speaker and local councillors, but in vain.

“Residents were upset and began to throw stones at the building.

“Fortunately we managed to calm one another and the police were also on the scene.

“Officials showed up after a very long time and gave us registrations forms to fill in and return to the municipal offices.”

Mr Henry Masango, head of communication and marketing for the Govan Mbeki Municipality, said the matter has been brought to the attention of the human settlement section for investigation and a possible solution.
