Another way of dealing with emergencies

Secunda Safety Group might have the answer.

SECUNDA – You and I, citizens of this country and members of the Secunda community, need to urgently reflect on how we can help one another in these crime-ridden times.

Each one of us knows somebody who had been a victim of crime and who had experienced an emergency and did not know who to call or what to do.

According to Crime Stats SA’ stats for 2014, Secunda had, among others:

  • Murders – 3
  • Sexual crimes – 33
  • Attempted murders – 7
  • Common assault – 139
  • Burglary at residential premises – 632
  • Robberies at residential premises – 11
  • Carjackings – 2

The number of crimes committed is increasing at an alarming rate, and although we have the SAPS, Sector Policing and the Community Policing Forums available, residents must become more actively involved in their own safety and peace of mind.

It was for this reason that the Secunda Veiligheids Groep (safety group) was formed. It is a group of community members who help those in emergencies.
