A Kasselman Security Services officer got a nasty surprise when a crook pulled out a knife after the officer confronted him on 11 January.
According to the officer the incident occurred at the top of Robert Street in Meyerville at 10.30am.
“I was patrolling the area when I saw a man walking down the street with a laptop in his hand,” the officer said.
“I stopped to ask him who the owner of the laptop is.”
“He said it was his friend’s laptop and he had lent it to him.”
The officer got out of his vehicle and asked the alleged thief to show him where his friend lives.
According to the officer he took a knife from his pocket and pointed it at him.
“I told the man I will shoot, but he told me I will not shoot.”
The officer then managed to get the man down on the ground and when he tried to reach his handcuffs the man escaped and ran away. “I contacted our control room to contact the police.”
According to the Standerton Police the alleged thief stole the laptop from a house in Smuts Street. The police were quick to respond and the suspect was later arrested in Meyerville with the laptop and the knife still in his possession.
A case of housebreaking has been opened at the Standerton Police Station.
