Rape case withdrawn after death

Woman suffers stroke, says was raped.

eMBALENHLE – Ms Phindile Mkhonza (25) died on Sunday, 21 December in the Evander Hospital.

She was admitted to hospital after she had a stroke on Wednesday, 5 November.

She was released from hospital after a week, but suffered another stroke on Friday, 28 November and was re-admitted to the hospital.

According to the doctor’s reports she died of TB.

Ms Mkhonza was allegedly raped while she was in the hospital and said it was one of the hospital employees.

A rape case was opened at the Secunda Police Station, but when Ms Mkhonza died, the case was withdrawn.

“The police did a postmortem and found no evidence of rape,” Sgt Sibusiso Mbule, communication officer of Evander Police, said.
