Decision on taxi driver’s case to be heard soon

Mr Tsepang Matloung, the taxi driver charged with murder, fraud and reckless driving, appeared again in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on 19 January.

He faces nine counts of murder after 12 occupants died as a result of an accident, 11 on the scene and one more in the Standerton Hospital days later.

He applied for legal representation on 16 December and the case was postponed to 19 January.

“The docket has been sent to the Senior Public Prosecutor in Secunda where a decision on the case will be made,” a reliable source in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court said.

According to the source the prosecutor will give the court a directive on whether or not the case will be heard in the regional or high court. The suspect remains under remand until 20 February when a decision on the case will be heard.
