Kinross woman arrested after false bomb threat
Ms Badat makes false bomb threat at Laerskool Oranjegloed Primary School.
SECUNDA – Ms Badat (59) appeared in the Secunda Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 9 February after she had allegedly phoned Laerskool Oranjegloed Primary School on Tuesday, 3 February and said there was a bomb at the school.
The school contacted the pupils’ parents on 3 February to pick up their kids from school.
All the pupils had gathered on the rugby field, some were traumatised.
The police and the K9 unit searched the school, but did not find a bomb.
Medical personnel were also at the scene.
The police traced the cell phone from which the call was apparently made and arrested Ms Badat in Kinross.
Her cell phone and sim card were confiscated for further investigations and she was released on bail.
She will reappear in court on Tuesday, 17 February.
It is not yet known what prompted Ms Badat to make the false bomb threat.
Secunda Police thanked W/O Sekeleni for his dedication in investigating the case.
- The South African Police Service warned the community to refrain from making bomb threats because you can either be given a fine or prison sentence or both.
