Police arrest Basotho murder suspects
Residents say they are scared.
EVANDER – The police arrested 15 Basotho nationals for the murder of six Basotho nationals.
They are facing charges of murder, house robbery, attempted murder and malicious damage to property.
The arrests come two weeks after the six men were stabbed and shot dead in the eNkomeni Village by a rivalry group of Basothos residing in eMbalenhle.
It is alleged that the violence were due to illegal mining in the area.
Residents, mostly from the Mandela Section and Extension 26, recently told the newspaper that their lives are in danger.
They said the police did patrols when the illegal miners saw them and ran into residents’ homes to hide.
“I was doing my laundry when two men wearing Basotho traditional blankets, ran into my yard.
“I screamed for help and they threatened to shoot me.
“I was very scared, but they did not hurt me,” said a resident of Extension 26.
The men will appear in court soon.
