Help is a push of a button away
The latest cell phone application, Zello, is an app that can help in the fight against crime.

The latest free cell phone application to hit the market, Zello, can fight crime fast.
Just think of the advantages, at a push of a button you have your neighbourhood watch, police, ambulance services and armed response units at your disposal.
The Standerton Advertiser has already opened its own channel Standerton Misdaad/Crime and already begun gathering interested parties within the community including Kasselman Security Services, Jeria Ambulance Services, AfriForum and Standerton Neighbourhood Watch.
“I think this tool will be very efficient when it comes to reaction time,” Mr Jannie Kasselman of Kasselman Security Services said. “If we can get everyone on board I think it will make fighting crime a whole lot easier.”
According to Mr Hillel Coetzer of AfriForum, this topic will be discussed at the next monthly meeting of the Neighbourhood Watch.
“We will definitely get on board as we are there for the community,” Ms Susan van den Heever of Trauma Sorg Academy said.
The application can not be more simpler, if you have downloaded it, open the app and register a profile.
Go to channels, press on find a channel and enter Standerton Misdaad/Crime, once it appears on your screen add the channel.
A circle will appear with a microphone in the middle.
Press on the circle and wait for the beep before you begin speaking. Everyone on the selected channel will be able to hear you.
According to Mr Kasselman pamphlets are available at the neighbourhood watch meetings that explain the correct etiquette when using the application.
Anybody that is still not clear on how it works, or how to download the app, are welcome to visit the Standerton Advertiser offices and we will help.
The application uses 20 kilobytes of data per hour, which is almost nothing.
Your mobile data needs to be on for the application to work.
