Opposition parties raise concern over vandalised taxi rank

Opposition parties have raised concerns about the current condition of the Rooikoppen taxi rank.
They are not pleased that the rank is being vandalised.
Mr Sipho Gumede, PAC councillor, said the municipality wasted a lot of money on the taxi rank.
“It is unfortunate that the municipality does not make money with the rank.
“It is obvious that it is not used at all because if it was, the taxi association would have a lease agreement with the municipality and pay them monthly,” Mr Gumede said.
He also said the money that was used for the rank could have been used for something else.
According to him there is a lot of ageing infrastructure in Lekwa that needs to be addressed.
“The municipality is responsible for the municipal assets and must take care of it,” Mr Pierre Schnetler, DA councillor, said.
Mr Sipho Mkwanazi, spokesman of the Lekwa Municipality, undertook to scrutinise council’s report, but did not get back to the Standerton Advertiser at the time of going to press.
