Gogo receives RDP house
The Department of Human Settlements handed over a house to a 91-year-old woman in Morgenzon
Ms Ntombizodwa Frida Nkabinde from Morgenzon received a RDP house from the Department of Human Settlements on 8 May.
This 91-year-old woman now has a fully furnished two-bedroom house.
She also got appliances including a microwave, a kettle, two heaters, an iron and a fridge.
A team of 12 people from MM Investments built the house.
According to Ms Marian Mnisi from MM Investments, it took them 11 days to build her house.
Ms Nkabinde said: “Thank you to everyone who contributed and made this a success.”
According to Ms Violet Siwela, Mpumalanga MEC of Human Settlements, the poverty and inequality issues in the country are being addressed.
“It is important for the government to help the elderly that can not afford to build their own houses,” Ms Siwela said.
She also said more houses within the province, depending on their budget, will be handed over.
“We are prioritising the elderly, orphans and those in need.”
Ms Nkabinde was living in a shack after her RDP house was approved in 2009.
She is staying with her three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The approved RDP was however built in Ext 6 in Standerton and someone else is occupying it.
Ms Nkabinde’s grandson, Mr Mzwakhe Nkabinde, approached the Department of Human Settlements for assistance in 2011.
According to him a letter was written to the provincial department on 28 May 2012, but they did not receive a response.
He also confronted the person occupying the house, but he refused to move out.
Ms Nkabinde, after everything that has happened, is now a proud home owner.
