Mark and Robin wins Secunda Motor Rally

Rally saw some high speed action over tarmac and loose gravel roads.

SECUNDA – Mark Cronje and Robin Houghton in their Ford Performance Fiesta S2000 won the Sasol Motor Rally.

They finished three and a half minutes ahead of Leeroy Poulter and Elvene Coetzee (Castrol Toyota Yaris S2000).

The rally was the first of its kind to be held in the Secunda area and was a very compact event on 15 and 16 May.

The event was run over two days and was the 24th Sasol Rally through Mpumalanga.

It began at Graceland Casino at 12pm and the crews took on six stages before overnighting at Umuzi Lodge.

They restarted Saturday morning and raced a further six stages before finishing Lake Umuzi at about 3pm.

These types of special stage rallies consist of high speed action over tarmac and loose gravel roads where bravery, brilliant car control and the highest level of teamwork between driver and navigator come together.

Gugu Zulu and Pierre Arries (Sasol Volkswagen Polo S2000) came another three minutes behind.

Namibians Wilro Dippenaar and Kes Naidoo (North City Panel Beaters Toyota Auris) finished fourth overall, winning the NRC4 class.

Thilo Himmel and Armand du Toit (Genuine Parts VW Polo) came fifth and Giniel de Villiers and Carolyn Swan finished sixth in their Castrol Toyota Yaris.
